CBD (cannabidiol) is a naturally occurring cannabinoid found in many varieties of cannabis. During the last 40 years, CBD has been accidentally bred out of many strains of marijuana while trying to create a stronger “high”. Many people today have gotten used to the marijuana strains that lack CBD, but many old school stoners will argue that the pot back in the day used to be much better and balanced.
CBD gained much of its popularity from being featured on CNN as an aid for epilepsy sufferers. Today you will find that CBD consumers come from all walks of life. Many people with the following issues tend to be extremely interested in CBD: epilepsy, cancer, fibromyalgia, pain, arthritis, migraines, panic, anxiety, lack of focus, PTSD, depression, ADHD, autism, etc.
The most sought after CBD products are oral tinctures, vape liquids, and salves.
Now that you are caught up on the basics, let’s start the countdown…
5.) All CBD is created equal►► False
Studies done by Dr. Allan Frankel have concluded that high quality CBD can be over 100 times more effective than low grade CBD (per mg CBD). Unfortunately the majority of CBD on the market today is of very low grade. Most of it comes from China. Many people have troubles distinguishing one brand from another. There are many companies that sell the same low grade CBD under different brand names. Fancy marketing tactics are usually used to hide the lack of transparency.
Good CBD comes from cannabis plants that have been bred for human consumption. CBD extracted from marijuana plants should always be pretty good as it has been bred for consumption. CBD extracted from industrial fiber hemp plants that induce headaches when smoking is not a very good starting point for making any sort of CBD product.
While the majority of CBD from hemp is of low grade, some is top notch. Hemp specifically bred for CBD and terpenes does not induce headaches when smoked and is a great source for CBD!
Much like all dogs come from wolves, hemp and marijuana are both Cannabis Sativa. Hemp’s legal definition is Cannabis Sativa that contains 0.3% THC or less. Marijuana’s legal definition is Cannabis Sativa containing more than 0.3% THC. Source: Hemp: A New Crop with New Uses for North America
All 50 State legal CBD comes from hemp. Don’t let this scare you away though. Ask questions. If the company doesn’t actually grow their plants, then it is a good chance that they repackage low grade CBD from China. If the company grows their plants in the United States then there is a better chance that they have been bred for human consumption. Some will be better than others though.
CBD on it’s own has very little effectiveness. The “Entourage Effect” is responsible for the effectiveness of CBD. The Entourage Effect is a term for how the plant compounds synergize to create a powerful effect. Terpenes (beta caryophyllene, limonene, linalool, myrcene, etc.) and cannabinoids (CBD, THC, CBC, CBG, etc) all work together to make a powerful product. This is why we steer away from CBD isolates (pure crystal form). CBD isolates will not be near as effect as a CBD FECO (Full Extract Cannabis Oil).
The best CBD comes from CBD genetics that have been bred for consumption and extracted to contain the most important plant compounds.
4.) You can not fail a drug test from CBD consumption►► False
Unfortunately, CBD and poppy seeds fall in the same category of legal compounds that can show false positives on drug tests.
Quality CBD will contain trace amounts of THC that can build up in the system (over time) causing one to fail a drug test. Even pure CBD (isolates) can cause false positives on drug tests as stomach acid is strong enough to convert some of the CBD into the metabolites that are looked for when testing for marijuana consumption.
If you are burdened with drug tests, then it is always best to talk to the person of authority about your desire to try CBD. We have many customers that have been given the OK to use our products. These range from drug tests for work to drug tests for government sponsored health care programs.
3.) CBD dosing is one size fits all►► False
While most people consume about 15-30 mg of CBD per day, we have found the total range to be roughly 1-100 mg of CBD daily. It is always best to buy products from a company that will help you with dosing. The best dose is usually the lowest dose that gives the desired results.
If you are taking pharmaceuticals that are metabolized in the liver (about 60%), then it is best to take CBD 1.5 hours before any other medications. CBD blocks pharmaceuticals from being metabolized until it is done being metabolized. When CBD and pharmaceuticals are consumed at the same time, the pharmaceuticals can get built up in the system resulting in increased side effects from the medications – Make sure to check with an expert.
2.) CBD is good while THC is bad►► False
While a small portion of the population feels that THC consumption is immoral, no one has ever died from marijuana consumption. THC is great for many illnesses….hence the majority of States instating a Medical Marijuana Program.
Cannabis is ingrained in our DNA. We have a system in our body called the endocannabinoid system. This system is specifically used for processing cannabis. Cannabis can be used for making rope, cooking oil, food, recreation, health, etc. The industrial hemp variety is touted for having over 10,000 uses in society today. Cannabis has so many uses and importance that it was actually saved by human intervention during an ice age.
“The endogenous cannabinoid system, named after the plant that led to its discovery, is perhaps the most important physiologic system involved in establishing and maintaining human health.” ~ Norml
While Vitamin C is needed to prevent scurvy, maybe we need to stop neglecting our endocannabinoid system if we want to maintain optimal health!
1.) CBD is non-psychoactive; you can’t feel the effects►► False
CBD is non-psychoactive, but you most definitely feel the effects! I often describe the effects as feeling like a kid again before life happened.
We think CBD is absolutely amazing! It’s still in its infancy stages, but we predict that a large majority of the human population will start consuming CBD on a regular basis in the near future. ֎
